On this day Dungeons & Dragons creator E. Gary Gygax passed away. Contrary to what some of his fans believed, he was hardy enough to survive the releases of the 3rd and 4th Editions of D&D. The announcement of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull may have been too much though.

Fans have since commemorated his death by making March 4th “GM’s Day,” a day on which we celebrate Game Masters by showering them with tasteful beard-themed gifts.
